Funeral Policy

Statement of Belief on Funerals

The "Song of Faith" of the United Church of Canada states;

"In and with God,
we can direct our lives toward right relationship
with each other and with God.
We can discover our place as one strand in the web of life.
We can grow in wisdom and compassion.
We can recognize all people as kin.
We can accept our mortality and finitude, not as a curse,
but as a challenge to make our lives and choices matter."

Celebration of Life with flowers

With this as our foundation, the congregation of St. Martin's United Church affirms:

  • Experiencing the death of a loved one is one of life's harshest trials.

  • We understand Jesus calls us to walk with people and be present to them when they are most vulnerable. Further, we believe that we have the privilege of sharing the good news that the life God gives is life eternal

  • We will provide funeral services to congregants, adherents and others from the wider community who seek to honor the life of the deceased in ways that are appropriate to the context of those who will attend. Funerals at St. Martin's United Church will share the good news of eternal life in God with those who are mourning through a service of Christian worship.
